The J. Reuben Clark Law Society – J. Clifford Wallace Award honors a distinguished jurist who has also contributed to the cause of justice beyond his or her office. The Award was inaugurated in 2018 on the recommendation of the Judges Committee of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society.
The recipient of the J. Clifford Wallace Award must exemplify the Mission Statement of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society and the Mission Statement of the Judges Committee of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society.
The recipient of the award will be a jurist who has followed the example of the Honorable J. Clifford Wallace. Judge Wallace has lived an unparalleled life of professional excellence, personal integrity, and service to the legal profession. The award recognizes jurists who have demonstrated:
The recipient will be approved by the Board of Directors of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society, on the recommendation of the Judges Committee of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society. Nominations will be accepted by the Judges Committee from members of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society. Proposed recipients must be submitted by the Judges Committee to the Board of Directors for approval before October 1st for presentation the following year.
The conferee need not be a member of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The award may, but will not necessarily, be conferred annually.
If the award is presented, it will be bestowed before a plenary session of the annual conference of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society (or at another J. Reuben Clark Law Society event chosen by the Board of Directors and Judges Committee). The conference or event committee will choose an appropriate presenter (with input from the Judges Committee) and will schedule the presentation. The Judges Committee will notify the recipient and confirm the attendance of the awardee for the presentation. The conference or event committee may, but need not, request that the recipient speak at the conference or event. If the recipient speaks at the conference or event, the J. Reuben Clark Law Society will pay reasonable travel costs for the recipient and a guest. If the recipient does not speak, the awardee will be provided the opportunity to make brief acceptance remarks. The personal attendance of the recipient for the presentation is preferred; however, accommodation should be made for electronic/video participation when appropriate.
The Judges Committee will procure the award. The Judges Committee will not incur any financial liability on behalf of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society for the purchase of the award without prior approval of the Board of Directors.
