Carmina Burana

May 11, 9:00 – 11:00 PM

About this event

Come enjoy a live performance of Carmina Burana with fellow JRCLS members. Sung by the Portland Choir & Orchestra, this classic cantata will be performed at the Rolling Hills Community Church in Tualatin for one matinee performance only at 2pm. Go to MusicInPortland.org to purchase tickets.

Carmina Burana was composed by Carl Orff in 1935-6 and 1936, based on 24 poems from the medieval collection of the same name. Many songs from the cantata will be recognized from movies such as Glory, The Hunt for Red October, The Doors, Natural Born Killers, The General's Daughter, and Cheaper by the Dozen, to name a few. Its full Latin title translates as "Songs of Beuern: Secular Songs for Singers and Choruses to be Sung Together with Instruments and Magical Images". It was first performed in Frankfurt in 1937 and has been enjoyed by audiences all over the world to the present day.

JRCLS members should gather in the rotunda after the performance to socialize.
