Criminal Justice Visit in Tanzania
The J. Reuben Clark Law Society Central Africa Area is chaired by Matthieu Kalota of the MKK Law Firm in Kinshasa, Uganda. The Area encompasses many countries in central and eastern Africa including Tanzania on the coast. JRCLS member Neema Njemu, a law student in Tanzania, recently participated in a service trip to Keko Prison in Dar es Salaam. She, along with Police Officers and Attorneys from the National Prosecution Service, where she attends as an Intern, visited remandees and convicted inmates for the purpose of enhancing criminal justice conditions. She and the attendees spoke with inmates about their challenges while in prison and visited their sleeping quarters, the kitchen and dining areas to better understand their experience in prison and how they might work to improve it.
