The Law Society continues to expand globally, as Central America sees its first chapter in Guatemala and Central America. In September 2023, the J. Reuben Clark Law Society’s Guatemala City, Guatemala Chapter was born.
Spencer Levi Milian is one of the Law Society’s newest Chapter Chairs. Attendees of the 2023 JRCLS Annual Leadership Conference in Provo, Utah, had the privilege of meeting Spencer.
Spencer’s professional focus covers International Development, Public Policy, and Democracy and Governance. He received his LL.B. and LL.M. in International Law from Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala. He further earned his Leading Economic Growth Executive Program from the Harvard Kennedy School and graduated from Georgetown University’s Latin American Leadership Program at the McDonough School of Business.
Spencer is off to a fast start, laying sure foundations for the J. Reuben Clark Law Society’s beginnings in Guatemala and the area as he leads the Law Society’s first chapter in the region. Spencer is married to Mellanie Alfonso and is a father of two children.
Emely Mabel Melling received her LL.B. law degree in Honduras. She earned a Master of Election Law in Mexico and an LL.M. (Master of Laws) at BYU Law School in the United States. Emely ran for political office, was elected, and served a four-year term as City Councilwoman for her hometown, La Ceiba, Honduras. After her graduation from BYU Law School, she was selected as a 2020 J. Reuben Clark Law Society Religious Liberty Fellow. Currently, Emely is an advanced-standing Juris Doctor Candidate. She is also an online adjunct faculty at Brigham Young University-Idaho, where she teaches Child and Family Advocacy with a component in Marriage, Family and Religious Freedom. Recently, Emely has been appointed to serve as an Area Chair for the Central America Area in the J. Reuben Clark Law Society. She enjoys classical ballet, coloring, and mindfulness. Emely is married to Christopher Fleck Melling, a 2022 distinguished BYU Law alumnus.
