As part of its continuing commitment to community engagement and access to justice, a Legal Needs Assessment was conducted for the Indigenous Peoples (IP) Community in Camanggahan, Guimbal, Iloilo, Philippines on May 9, 2026.
The activity was undertaken by the JRCLS Visayas Chapter in partnership with the Iloilo City's University of San Agustin Social Advocacy and Community Engagement Office, with the objective of identifying the legal concerns, challenges, and needs of the community. Through consultations and community interactions, valuable insights were gathered to better understand the issues affecting the residents and to determine appropriate legal and social interventions.
The assessment serves as a vital first step in the development of a more comprehensive Legal Aid Caravan, which aims to provide legal assistance, education, and support services tailored to the needs of the community. The initiative seeks to empower community members through increased awareness of their rights and access to available legal remedies and government services.
Preparations for the forthcoming Legal Aid Caravan are currently underway, with ongoing coordination meetings involving prospective partners from the local government and various government agencies. Through collaborative efforts, the organizers hope to establish a sustainable framework for delivering meaningful legal and community services to the Indigenous Peoples community of Camanggahan.
This undertaking reflects a shared commitment to advancing social responsibility, community empowerment, and access to justice for underserved sectors of society.
