The 2026 Philippines Area Conference of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society culminated in a sacred and inspiring Closing Fireside. The evening provided a fitting spiritual close to a conference centered on faith, professional excellence, and service.
Don Fletcher, Philippines Area Legal Counsel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, formally introduced the J. Reuben Clark Law Society by sharing the life and legacy of J. Reuben Clark and explaining the significance of the Society bearing his name. His message reaffirmed the Society’s mission to support legal professionals who strive to harmonize faith with the practice of law.
The fireside featured an uplifting and inspiring message delivered by Associate Justice Maria Elisa Sempio-Diy of the Court of Appeals of the Philippines. Her address resonated profoundly with the attendees—most especially the new lawyers—as she spoke on integrity, accountability, and the higher calling of the legal profession. Drawing from her experience as a Bar Examiner in Criminal Law, she offered meaningful insights that both challenged and encouraged members of the Bar to uphold the noblest standards of practice.
In a particularly powerful message to the new lawyers, she reminded them to use their profession as an instrument to manifest God’s great love for His children—to practice law not merely as a means of livelihood, but as a sacred opportunity to serve, uplift, and bring justice with compassion.
The keynote address was delivered by Elder Carlos G. Revillo Jr., Philippines Area President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In his inspiring message, he offered guidance and encouragement to lawyers seeking to harmonize professional excellence with discipleship and service. He also urged members of the Society to actively serve in public office and in other spheres where the Society’s mission can be applied, exemplifying principled leadership and service to the community.
