Service Spotlight: Tanzania Chapter Restores Hope Through Legal Service

During the May 2026 Month of Service, the Tanzania Dar es Salaam Chapter provided legal education on gender-based violence, child protection, and women's rights. Held in conjunction with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Tanganyika Law Society, and law students, the educational programming reached approximately 5,000 individuals through radio and community engagement efforts.

This faith-based initiative highlighted the transformative impact of legal education in restoring dignity while expanding access to justice for vulnerable populations, including women, children, victims of gender-based violence, and Maasai communities. Participants were empowered to assert their rights to resolve legal disputes. 

One notable resolution was a pro bono inheritance case that restored a widowed woman’s rights and family stability. JRCLS members also assisted in several other matters: prohibiting an unlawful attempted sale of jointly owned family property without spousal consent; securing a court order for a widow unlawfully evicted from her matrimonial home pending succession proceedings; and assisting a woman in filing for divorce after years of separation.

Adinani Kingazi, Tanzania Chapter Chair, helped organize the program and expressed gratitude for the opportunities to rebuild hope within vulnerable communities. He also shared that the service experience was deeply transformative for those involved, strengthening the Tanzania Chapter members’ commitment to justice and reinforcing their belief that law is a vital instrument for protecting dignity and restoring rights.
