As part of the commitment of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society – Lima Chapter, Peru, we have been carrying out free legal aid initiatives in vulnerable communities across our city. One of the most meaningful experiences was the “Building Strong Families” event in San Juan de Lurigancho, where we provided guidance on topics such as custody, child support, domestic violence, and property rights. Hearing mothers say they were leaving with “clear answers that give them peace of mind” was deeply moving.
Service has transformed the way our chapter understands its purpose. It has taught us that legal knowledge should not remain confined to classrooms or courtrooms—it must reach those who need it most. These kinds of activities strengthen faith, empathy, and a sense of community. We make it work by uniting wills: attorneys, students, community leaders, and neighbors—all committed to the same goal. Serving reminds us why we chose law as a vocation, and it drives us to promote legal self-reliance in every family we assist.
