On May 17, 2025, the J. Reuben Clark Law Society (JRCLS) made a significant impact on the final day of the Youth Conference for the Iligan Philippines Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Held in the scenic coastal town of Initao, Misamis Oriental, the conference was themed “How Education Will Change Your Life.” The session brought together youth participants and prominent members of the JRCLS to explore the far-reaching effects of education—especially legal education—in shaping lives, communities, and futures. The youth conference concluded with an inspiring lineup of speakers from the JRCLS who shared personal stories, professional insights, and faith-driven motivation with the rising generation.
Rigel N. Belleza, J.D., Philippines Student Chapter Chair, opened the session with a heartfelt message highlighting the value of education as a divine tool for empowerment. “Education is not just preparation for life—it is life itself,” she stated. “It refines our character, expands our opportunities, and allows us to be instruments for good in our families and communities.”
Norhanifah O. Mangotara, J.D., a Licensed Professional Teacher and a standout member of the Mindanao Student Chapter, brought a unique and powerful perspective to the youth. Former President of the Supreme Law Student Council at the Mindanao State University College of Law – Iligan Extension, and a recent intern at the Office of the Solicitor General of the Philippines, Norhanifah emphasized how education, paired with integrity and service, can uplift not only individuals but entire regions. “Your background doesn’t determine your future—your vision and perseverance do,” she said, encouraging youth to dream big while staying rooted in good values. She encouraged the attendees that when it comes to getting a good education, they must decide now and prepare now.
Attorney Joanna Christabelle Luyong-Belleza, Philippines Area Communications Chair, shared her experiences as a legal professional and communicator. She underscored the importance of using one’s voice and talents to advocate for truth and righteousness. “As Latter-day Saints, we are called to be leaders who are both competent and compassionate,” she noted. “Education equips us to fulfill that calling in meaningful ways.” “Our opportunities to attain education are limitless,” she emphasized.
Concluding the session was Attorney Aleksei N. Belleza, Chair of the Mindanao Chapter, who tied the discussion together by focusing on the long-term impact of education on both personal growth and nation-building. “Every subject you study, every skill you develop, is a brick in the foundation of the future you are building,” he told the youth. “And with faith in Christ, that future is filled with light.”
The presence of these dedicated professionals at the youth conference exemplified the mission of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society—to affirm the strength brought by a legal education rooted in faith and ethical leadership. Their words resonated deeply with the youth of the Iligan Philippines Stake, many of whom expressed newfound motivation to pursue education and service with greater purpose.
The event marked a powerful close to the youth conference, leaving a lasting impression on attendees and reinforcing the vital role of education in shaping a life of discipleship, leadership, and lifelong learning.
