Most presenters at the CLE program were members of the Law Society and lectured on topics relating to their areas of expertise. For instance, Alisa Wilkes, a member of the Florida Orlando chapter, presented on how she has maximized productivity in her law practice using email management systems, AI and other tools. Five members of the judiciary–Samuel Chiara, Sherrill Anne Ellsworth, Kelly Hansen, Seth Hoyt, and Richard Phelps–presented on courtroom ethics and how lawyers can enhance their professional reputation as advocates. David Channer, Deputy Legal Counsel for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, addressed the topic of legal challenges faced by the Church, many of which were highlighted in a recent Deseret News article referencing David’s presentation.
Law Society leaders were also represented at this year’s program, including Law Society International Chair, David Garner, and JRCLS Executive Director, Forrest Hansen, who presented on how the Society provides pro bono legal service and defends religious freedom and moral values.
In his second year as the program organizer, David Dowling headed up the 2024 CLE program, which has been running for more than 20 years. He was also assisted by Eileen Doyle Crane.
The program also included a complimentary lunch presented by the JRCLS on Wednesday, August 2, with more than 90 attendees from the CLE sessions.
