Germany Frankfurt Chapter: Growing in Spirit, Connection, and Service

On April 11, 2026, the Frankfurt Germany Chapter met for the first time this year, welcoming a few new members to the chapter since its last meeting. Eight members of the Law Society from different walks of the legal profession and from all over Germany participated in the event, getting to know each other better, learning more about the Law Society’s mission, and setting goals for a fresh restart of the chapter’s efforts.

Chapter members started the day with a spiritual experience by attending the Frankfurt Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the “Church”). They then socialized over dinner before holding a formal meeting at the Church building in Wetterau. During the meeting, members heard a presentation about the J. Reuben Clark Law Society, then engaged in chapter planning for the next two years.

The first activity planned will be a service event for the Law Society’s 2026 Month of Service in May. In discussing what type of service to perform, chapter members acknowledged that as a world wide organization, the Church serves its own members along and with members of others, or no faith at all. This service is based upon the same eternal principles and according to the Church’s General Handbook. However, in performing this service, Church leaders and members need to observe local laws which often differ from one country to the other.

Due to the need for Church members to be aware of local regulations in order to comply, Frankfurt Chapter members decided to use their professional skills to create a “Questions & Answers” document addressing legal questions with regard to the service in the Church in the light of the German law. Questions to address might include the status of missionaries regarding health insurance, official recognition of a full-time mission as volunteer service, or liability for accidents at a Church-sponsored activity. After the Q&A document is finished, the chapter plans to present it to the Church’s Area Legal Counsel for the Europe Central Area, who is also a member of the chapter, for review in hopes that the document will be a valuable tool for Church leaders in Germany.

Chapter members also decided to organize Rule of Law Camps in 2027. To implement these programs, chapter members plan to develop two types of programs that can be used for the youth of the Church and their friends: a complete Rule of Law Camp for an extended program; and shorter lessons focused on specific topics. This will allow adaptation for various activities as needed. Members of the chapter plan to coordinate with youth leaders of the Church stakes in Germany about the possibility of Law Society members putting on Rule of Law-type activities during 2027, including the option of hosting a session during upcoming youth conferences.

After a day full of spiritual uplift, warm sociality, reminders about the mission of the Law Society, and a productive planning for future events, chapter members left with good feelings of new and renewed friendships that deepen in the service of others.

Chapter leaders warmly invite all members of the German chapter, including those who could not make it to this event, to participate in the upcoming service project and to join the next chapter meeting on November 7, 2026.
