The Ecuador Guayaquil Chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society (JRCLS) participated in a public space restoration initiative organized by the General Directorate of Environment of the Municipality of Guayaquil in commemoration of World Migratory Bird Day. In May, 2026, chapter members joined the initiative to collaborate with the local authorities in improving the urban environment and promoting environmental stewardship for the benefit of the community.
During the event, volunteers participated in the creation of a mural dedicated to the protection of migratory birds and respect for nature. The project transformed deteriorated, graffiti-covered walls into a space that not only enhances the appearance of the area but also communicates the importance of preserving biodiversity. In this way, the activity contributed to the restoration of a shared public environment and encouraged greater awareness among citizens about the importance of caring for it.
The initiative brought together chapter members and representatives from public and private institutions, as well as civil society organizations, who contributed their time and effort toward a common purpose. Among the participants was James Guerrero, chair of the Guayaquil Chapter, and received the support of Karina Murillo. This collaboration allowed the chapter to support the municipality’s efforts to restore public spaces and, through service, demonstrate its commitment to the needs of the community.
This experience reflects how community service can bring about tangible improvements in the city while strengthening cooperation among citizens and institutions. By contributing to the restoration of this public space, the Guayaquil Chapter of the JRCLS put into practice its commitment to social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and collective well-being.
