BYU Law Student Chapter and Utah Central Attorney Chapter Back-to-School BBQ

On September 10, 2026, the Brigham Young University Chapter and the Utah Central Chapter held a joint barbecue, which was a rousing success! With over 50 attendees, two grills, plenty of food, and a closely contested cookie contest, it was a delicious and meaningful opportunity for students and professionals to connect and learn from one another. Many of the attendees were 1L students experiencing their first law school extracurricular activity with  the JRCLS. They were able to learn about the Law Society  and had a great time eating hot dogs and meeting their fellow students.

Another great aspect of the event was that work required to plan was minimal for chapter leaders. Once the idea was solidified and flyers were distributed both electronically and to student carrels, it was a matter of assigning who would bring what and planning the minimal programming.

The majority of the event consisted of letting the attendees self-direct to meet one another and build relationships. I watched students find like-minded friends and multiple new law students rise to show eager and enthusiastic leadership. Despite their legal inexperience, they were natural networkers, friends to all, and generous with their time. Not to mention excellent cooks.

We made an incredible impression of community on over 50 current or potential members and are looking forward to seeing our attendees again. We hope to bring this group back together for many events to come.
