Mônica Pereira da Silva has seen a lot of promises. As president of Associação União Faz a Força — an organization built on the belief that unity creates strength — she knows the difference between words and action. On an afternoon in Maya, 2026, a small group of lawyers and volunteers knocked on her door carrying donations. No fanfare. Just hands full of something her community needed.
They came from the Brazil Campo Grande Chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society.
May is Service Month for JRCLS chapters across Brazil, a designated time to move from legal advocacy into something more immediate — neighbor helping neighbor. The Campo Grande Chapter chose to spend it with União Faz a Força, mobilizing members and supporters around a collection and donation drive that turned intention into tangible good.
The team that showed up for the delivery was small but deliberate: Mateus Santiago S. Silva, Chapter President; Vera Lúcia da Silva, Vice President; Salomão Nunes da Silva, Director of Religious Freedom; and Armindo Ramão Medina Jr., Director of Membership. Behind the scenes, Sister Uildes Santana de Sá e Silva played a key role in organizing and executing the campaign — the kind of contribution that makes the program possible.
Service, solidarity, community responsibility. Three words that appear in mission statements everywhere. What distinguishes them at Campo Grande is what happened after they were written down — someone picked up the donations and drove them over.
For the families served by União Faz a Força, the Month of Service was more than a check box on a calendar; It was proof that the people around them cared about them without even knowing them.
